“The EPRI PM templates are becoming the backbone of many nuclear plant PM programs, including Diablo Canyon’s. We utilize this product in our PM Optimization work. We apply the PM templates to critical components and use the matrices involving the environmental conditions and duty cycle as the basis for all evaluations. Reliability, System and Component Engineers, and maintenance personnel rely on this database to aid their decisions regarding the scope, frequency and extent of PM tasks.
The PM optimization work using the PM Basis database (PRO-M) in the early 2000s supercedes the 1990s effort aimed at doing a similar task with the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) tool. However, the use of the PM Basis database for maintenance optimization is far superior to RCM because of the matrices in the templates that are based on real data and experience.”

Pacific Gas and Electric Company
“The PM Basis templates have been very helpful to us this year as a starting point to quickly and relatively easily establish our First Energy Nuclear Operating Company validated version of component templates. This was a big time saver, plus the PM Basis format is a great format to follow because it is thorough, clear and concise, and it establishes a strong basis that stands up to INPO and the NRC with merit.”
Paul Southerland,
First Energy Nuclear Operating Company
“The PM Basis Database helps us identify the PM needs of each piece of equipment, allowing us to better focus people and budget on doing the right things at the right time. The database helps us accomplish those goals resulting in fewer equipment failures and better plant availability at lower maintenance cost.”
Mike King,
Nuclear Management Company
“I have used the PM Basis V5 software and data as the basis of the turbine and generator Equipment Reliability Maintenance Improvement Program at Southern Nuclear for several years. The data and software are very useful to me in documenting the PM basis and supporting the maintenance optimization at our 3 nuclear sites.”
Randy C. Bunt,
Southern Nuclear Operating Company
“We have been creating Performance Centered Maintenance (PCM) Templates for several years. Exelon currently has 170 active templates and another 30 (new or revisions) in the pipeline. We utilize the EPRI PM Basis Database as reference material when our Subject Matter Experts are creating new or revising existing templates, frequently using the PM Basis Database information directly to populate our own basis.”
